My name is Amanda Bradshaw and I am a mother of four children. When our oldest daughter was struggling in school at age 8, we knew something wasn't right. Even though she was getting one-on-one reading intervention every day, she still only read at kindergarten level. Because of her reading delays, she was losing confidence in all subject areas. School became something she dreaded. A close friend and educator suggested it might be dyslexia. After searching all the information I could find online, I realized she had all the classic signs of Dyslexia. I was devastated. We compared all of the options available to us and decided that I would tutor her myself and became Certified in the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Our daughter has had great success. She reads all the time and loves to learn again. Since then, I have tutored our second daughter (who also has Dyslexia) and other students, all with great success. I wanted to share that success with other families with a struggling reader. I started Bradshaw Tutoring to provide other families with the choices and support that we would have wanted. It can be frustrating trying to help a child who is struggling. I love to help parents navigate the options and find what is right for their child.
I have a Bachelor of General Studies degree with an emphasis in Family Life from BYU. I am a Certified Barton Tutor. Along with Barton, I now use SPIRE Reading Program (also an Orton-Gillingham based program). I have worked at many schools in a variety of capacities. I was an interpreter for the deaf for 6 years. I was a substitute teacher for 3 years. Previous to those two jobs I was a swim instructor and swim team coach. I love to teach and especially love to tutor struggling students to read and spell. It gives me great joy to see their confidence and independence grow in all areas as they progress in these essential skills!
